There is a story or legend that goats were the first to discover the joys of coffee. These goats and the Galla tribe in Ethiopa tending them–chewed the green berries raw. It wasn’t until the 13th Century that Arabs brought coffee back home and then roasted them over fire.
In the Mid-17th century, Europe was home to the birth of the modern coffeehouse. These coffeehouses where places that townsfolk would gather for coffee, conversation, and commerce for the price of a single penny. These coffeehouses where often referred as "Penny Universities".
In those days, coffee was roasted over a wood fire, imbued with it, the smokiness flavor and aroma that already won over the Arabian Peninsula centuries earlier. It would soon win over Europe, and then eventually, win over the Americas.
While roasting over an open wood fire is no longer a practice used today, our roasters found a way to give coffee that wonderful, smoky flavor back without compromising the roast. You'll get the silky smoothness we guarantee on all our coffees, but a flavor profile that you won't forget or find anywhere else.
